KPSEA WON'T BE INCREDIBLY IMPRESSIVE TO PLACE PUPILS IN JUNIOR SECONDARY UPSETS TUTORS

The former cabinet secretary of education Dr.  Magoa burned the midnight oil to ensure the 8-4-4 system is replaced successfully by a Competency-based curriculum (CBC) in the form 2-3-3-3-3-3. Teachers unions KNUT AND KUPPET went to court to fight against CBC however the government via the cabinet secretary stood firmly that CBC is there to stay.

During his presidential campaign, the current president used CBC as a major issue to handle if elected since parents complained of sleeping late while doing homework for their children. Parents and other stakeholders in education suggested CBC be thrown away and the 8-4-4 system remain. Many learning materials were brought to school by parents for students to learn like chicken, a tray of eggs per student, plasticine instead of ordinary and available clay, etc which cost the parents /guardians lots of money with this difficult economy.

Kenyan citizens had many expectations when Dr. Ruto was sworn in as the fifth president since his campaign promised to do away with CBC. He has been appointed to work for a party on education where some directives were given. after learners complete 2 years in pre-unit and 6 years in primary, they join a junior secondary school which will be in primary school where an extra classroom and laboratory will be constructed.

The working party also has been directed that  KPSEA won't be used as a sieve to know learners who will proceed to junior secondary or remain in grade six. Teachers in primary school are shocked by the extra work they did to ensure learners revise well, lesson objectives are achieved, exam materials are available, and marks are entered online in time. Some instructors argued that the online system is complicated and many don't know how to operate it. Instead, the KPSEA will be used to monitor progress in the learning process and if set objectives are achieved.

Governmental bodies in education, such as the ministry of education, and the teachers' service commission will work hand in hand to ensure teachers are reequipped with relevant knowledge to handle grades 7,8&9. The main target is those who will handle grade 7 students who will enroll in the next year 2023.

To cater for teacher shortage and reduce the current teacher-to-student ratio they suggested employing 30,000 teachers by January next year. This will benefit many registered teachers eager to join the TSC plus offload current teachers with large works loads in their schools.

The final report is expected from the working party on education by march 2023
